This original Aladdin #239 morning glory shade was manufactured in 1938. Whip-O-Lite shades often appear quite different when the lamp is lit. In most cases the design stands out dramatically when the shade is lit, but as you can see in this case the design loses a lot of its color when lit. In this case it could be because the shade is being held over an Aladdin electric floor lamp. The floor lamp has a three way bulb in it and is turned to 150 watts, while the output from an Aladdin kerosene lamp would only provide around the same light as a 60 watt light bulb. If you plan to burn your Aladdin kerosene lamps you might remember that turning the lamp up to maximum brightness could actually detract from the beauty of the shade that adorns the lamp. |
